Whitney A. Spencer is a writer, educator, and filmmaker born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky, but now calls the South Side of Chicago home. She is completing a master’s degree in Critical Ethnic Studies at DePaul University, where her multimedia thesis project will focus on the community generated intellectual practices of Black/Brown youth activists and organizers (based on her 2018 TEDx talk, “Reimagining the Intellectual”). After graduation, Whitney plans to continue using storytelling to examine the broader culture. Most recently, she served as a Roger Ebert Sundance Fellow and as a Fall 2018 intern at Kartemquin Films under accomplished documentary filmmaker, artistic director and founding member of Kartemquin, Gordon Quinn. She strives to create in the tradition of the great Octavia Butler – “Tell stories filled with facts. Make people touch and taste and know. Make people Feel! Feel! Feel!”
